The Malewa Family Challenge (September 12 – 13th 2009)

The first ever Malewa Family Challenge was hosted by Malewa Trust and Malewa Bush Ventures on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September 2009 at its well established outdoor activity centre near Gilgil.
The aim of The Challenge was for 30 teams, made up of two adults and up to four children (aged 8 to 18), to complete a series of 10 fun, but challenging, activities, such as a blind folded driver reversing a vehicle through a set of cones whilst receiving directions from the other team members! Teams received points for each challenge successfully completed. The Team with the most points became the winner of The Malewa Family Challenge, 2009.

Each team was expected to raise funds to compete in the Challenge. These funds will help to finance the ongoing activities of the Malewa Trust and of a newly established mental health charity, the Kamili Trust.

The Malewa Trust ensures the long-term conservation of the biodiversity of the Malewa and Turasha rivers through environmental education and to demonstrate alternative initiatives that will enable people to become more self sufficient in order to alleviate poverty.
Mental health illness in Kenya is a vastly under-supported area of health care. There are thousands of sufferers, who have no access to a proper diagnosis, long-term treatment, care and counseling. Kamili endeavors to provide services to these forgotten sufferers, whilst working with the community and health professionals to reduce the stigma of mental health illness.
