Early projects included the promotion of Bee keeping which included training of personnel, installing hives, checking and harvesting of the honey plus labeling and marketing.

1. Tree nurseries:

Local communities have always been encouraged and taught how to establish tree nurseries, whilst representatives of the trust offer advise on the most appropriate tree seedlings to plant in these harsh climatic conditions. 2. Malewa Trust Environmental Education Centre:

A custom-built facility principally set up to promote environmental education to local communities. This ‘Bush School’ (an attractive property on the banks of the Malewa River) financed by the Gemini Foundation through Tusk Trust UK also serves as an ideal venue for community workshops and training whilst also being a venue for corporate and school training, a leadership base, camp site and conferencing facility. Through this venue, the MT has successfully brought together the local communities, private investors, Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resource Users Associations and NGO’s with the focus on more sustainable land management systems, conservation of natural resources, increased food production and alleviation from poverty.

3. Malewa Trust – Good Earth Trust:

In 2008 and in partnership with the Good Earth Trust UK the MT purchased a 1.8-Acre piece of land to promote alternative low cost building technology using compressed earth. The technology of rammed earth building has been in use for 900 years starting in France but despite being recognized by the Kenyan Bureau of Standards, it has been little used in Kenya. Malewa Trust promotes two simple solutions to provide low cost housing and water storage facilities.
